Green card
In order to obtain an official immigration status, one needs to obtain a Green Card that will allow anyone to have legal permanent residency in the country. To obtain a Green Card one must meet certain criteria and eligibility requirements. Some of these requirements depend on how long the petitioner has been in the country, or if they are married to a resident or a citizen, or if they are currently in the country or not. Many factors will play an important role when applying for permanent residency or Green Card. Most people are not aware that once permanent residency has been established and a Green Card has been obtained, that the law requires Green Card holders to carry it at all times, and not doing so would constitute a misdemeanor crime which is punishable by law. People who have applied for a Green Card are eligible to apply for a work permit, while their case is still pending. While a case is pending and waiting for the Green Card one must, before leaving the country, obtain prior written authorization to do so, otherwise the application will be deemed as abandoned and re-entry will be prohibited. There is a fee to obtain the Green Card which changes from time to time, therefore it is best to get the details before one begins. Passport pictures will be needed as well as a background check and fingerprints. It is best to read the instructions as to when, how and from where, these extra requirements must be obtained as they have dates of expiration from the date in which they were obtained, and only some places are accepted as official for these type of documents. Any mail sent by immigration that requests the presence of the applicant, must be kept and met. Missing a date with immigration in the middle of a Green Card process or any other for that matter will constitute as application abandonment and the applicant may not be re-scheduled or even seen for years, if ever! If someone needs to miss a date with immigration, making sure that it is an absolute emergency and having the pertinent documents to back it up is highly advisable. When permitted and of course depending on the nature of the emergency, it is always best to call in advance, meaning days in advance, to re-schedule. At any rate, the rules to obtain a Green Card are strict and must be followed in order to meet all of the requirements necessary to obtain a legal status without any complications. Doing the pertinent research and learning everything that the law requires in order to successfully obtain a Green Card is highly advisable. If someone meets the requirement necessaries and follows all the legal instructions as indicated by the immigration department, then the process should be smoother and the chances of getting accepted much higher!
